Make Lives Easier Through The Holidays!

The holidays are upon us. Gifts given to loved ones should be thoughtful. I am a big fan of gifts that are an experience, like museum memberships, weekends away, or nights out. But I also enjoy noticing what someone needs to improve their lives. What would make your loved ones’ life better?

Here are some ideas, but some gifts should be given with gentleness and love.

  • Cleaning services – I like to support small local businesses, but your ND loved one would appreciate having someone else clean. You could opt for a laundry service as well.
  • Food delivery service – there are a few options here. You might pay for an annual membership for someone to have grocery orders delivered to their home. Kroger has such a program, and others may, too. Going to the grocery store can be difficult for some NDs, and many overspend with impulse buys. Another option is to gift a meal delivery service. There are lots out there, but I suggest finding a local one so you know the food is fresh. In the Boulder area, try Eat 100 Foods. The food is healthy, fresh, and nutritious. The owner is also a nutritionist. It needs to be ordered weekly, but there are many choices, and the food is fantastic.
  • Mobile massage therapist session – Whether you gift one massage or a year’s worth, anyone would appreciate this gift. Find one local to you, but if you are in the Boulder area, The Kneadery is excellent. They can adjust to how much pressure or intensity you want or don’t want.
  • Exercise is beneficial for ND brain wiring, but going to the gym is, well…boring. Sneaking some movement into the day and helping ND get done what they want to do might be the way to go. An under desk treadmill could be the answer.
  • NDs lose things and aren’t great at putting stuff where it goes. Enter Tile Mates, which attach to the items (like the car keys) that no one wants to lose.
  • Hydration is essential, but cleaning out water bottles is a huge pain. I don’t understand precisely how this works, but the CrazyCap water bottle is self-cleaning. Yes, please, someone get me this.
  • Noice is a big trigger for many NDs— Loop earplugs to the rescue. There are different strengths for different needs. They are great for concerts, movie theaters, restaurants, travel, sleeping, etc. They can’t be seen when someone looks at you head-on. I wear mine often, but I appreciate them the most when I have a migraine so I can keep doing what I need to do.
  • Weighted blankets are popular, but Bearaby blankets look and feel like any other blanket. They come in different materials and sizes, from travel-size to king-size beds.
  • Getting up late, sleeping through alarms, and not preparing for the next day can be common experiences for NDs. They still want to arrive at work looking professional. With the HoMedics PerfectSteam Deluxe they can bandish wrinkles and get to work on time or at least look good.
  • The ONO Roller is an adult fidget. It keeps the hands busy while the mind can ponder, calm down, de-stress, or wonder.

The best gift for anyone in any relationship is to be seen, known, and heard. NDs don’t always have the words to tell you what they need or how they feel. One of these books for yourself may be the best gift you can give to your child, partner, friend, employee, or co-worker.
